Wellness of Mind.

Self-care is essential to my mental health. Some of my “must do” for self-care are meditation and mindfulness. These are, in fact, two separate entities.

My meditation practice is aimed at seated stillness and silence with a mantra. My mantra is repeated silently in my head over and over again as an anchor for my attention, as I sit. I can use mantras like “so hum” and “om namah shivaya”. I take anywhere from 15-20 minutes, 2x’s a day to practice.

Mindfulness is my favorite thing in the world to practice! I was introduced to mindfulness through psychotherapy when I was in inpatient for mood disorder. Mindfulness can be as simple as following your breath, in and out. All you need is an anchor for your attention. Some of my all time faves for formal practice are candle gazing, mindful walking in the forest (using all 5 senses), and breathe in “I am”/breathe out “here”. I begin formal practice at 5 minutes a day, and then I can build from there as I practice more.

The benefits I’ve recieved from these practices are outstanding! I’m able to become centered more quickly. I can notice shifts in energies in the room because I’m fully present. My ability to handle stress has increased. I can take a step back from the chatter in my mind and just notice whatever it is I’m thinking and feeling. These benefits have truly changed my life!

Practicing these things daily is a discipline. Some days are easier than others. One thing I know for sure is there is always something to be learned from these practices. Always. I intend to keep learning and growing in them.

Sending light and love, Kel.
