Let’s Stay Present

I’m inspired to write about the experience I had today in therapy and what that resulted in. It was one of those days where I wasn’t really sure what it was that I wanted to cover in session. I felt scrambled. When this happens, I remember to give the session and conversation up to my Spirit Guide. Spirit Guide knows exactly what I need to hear and learn from session.

Right away, my therapist asked me if I had wanted to start by talking about my journal entry. If I had remembered what my journal entry was about, then that would have been great! Again, I felt scrambled. I forgot to give it up to my Higher Power this time. I just stared blankly at my therapist on the screen of my phone.

Mindlessness is something I have struggled with for years. A lot of times, it hinders my ability to participate in life 100%. I tend to automatically space out or live inside my head too much. I’ve practiced mindfulness on and off for the past 6 years. Somehow, it never seems to stick! I have to be more consistent! I’m starting up my meditation practice again in the hopes that this time it will become a natural part of my life. I’ve always meditated on and off as well, and I’m determined this time to incorporate it into my routine and recovery.

Asking my Higher Power for help isn’t hard for me, I just have a difficult time remembering to ask! If I can ask my Spirit Guide to help me stay present in sessions with my therapist, then it’s safe to say I can ask my Spirit Guide to help me stay present always! Of course, nothing’s 100% always, especially not mindfulness! It’s a practice. The more you practice, the more it manifests.

Feeling scattered before session today actually turned out to be a good lesson in using my tools to help me be more present in my life. What helps me the most is looking around the room at all the colors and details. I feel more grounded that way. If there’s a candle going, even better!
